Finding a suitable way to utilize reeds

The total annual output of reeds in my country is over 3 million tons. Its stems have a high cellulose content and are a natural papermaking material. However, due to the associated water pollution problem, reed papermaking has been eliminated in many places as backward production capacity. As a result, reeds have fallen from "darlings" to "abandoned children", but "reeds are itchy and will not grow if they are not cut down", and letting them wither and flourish naturally has affected their growth.

According to on-site investigations, after a large number of abandoned harvests, the morphology of reeds within a certain water level range has degenerated, the reeds have become smaller and shorter, and the density has become sparse; the high water level area has also been invaded by vines, causing lodging in winter, seriously affecting the emergence of seedlings the following year, and causing large-scale extinction of reeds. Field monitoring results show that without artificial care, the biomass of the mature reed population has decreased by more than 40%, and the maximum carbon fixation rate during the community growth period has decreased by more than 20%.
